How much does a proposal photographer cost in Paris?
What a proposal photographer costs in Paris in 2026: price ranges by session length and platform, what is included, what raises the price and sample budgets.
A proposal photographer in Paris usually costs about the same as a one-hour couple session: roughly €220 to €380 with an independent or agency photographer at the time of writing (October 2026), sometimes with a small proposal surcharge. Dollar-priced booking platforms charge from $295 to $525 for an hour, while full planner packages with decoration start at about €590 and often reach €1,500 to €2,000. Below we break down what you get for the money, what pushes the price up, and three realistic budgets.

| Independent or agency photographer, 2 hours | Roughly €390 to €600 | Usually 45 to 100 edited photos; room for a second spot |
| Paris agency proposal package | €260 for one hour at one agency, or +€30 on a regular session | Same session, with planning of the surprise |
| LocalLens (marketplace) | From $295 | Proposals require at least the one-hour package (30 photos) |
| Flytographer (marketplace) | $425 for 30 minutes, $525 for 1 hour | Proposal packages, $100 more than its regular sessions, with planning time |
| Proposal planner (decor and setup) | From €590 (about $700) at one Paris agency; average spend €1,500 to €2,000 | Letters, rose petals, candles; check whether a photographer is included |
| Luxury planners | Up to €100,000 at one agency | Often full-day experiences |
High-end editorial and wedding photographers can charge €500 to €900 or more for a one to two hour couple session, and budget marketplaces advertise lower entry prices with fewer photos. The wide middle of the market, though, sits in the ranges above.
What a photo-only proposal usually includes
A photo-only proposal is a regular photo session with extra planning around the surprise. Before you compare prices, check that each quote includes:
- Planning exchanges before the day: the spot, a backup, the time, the scenario and the signal.
- The moment itself, photographed continuously from the approach to the hug.
- Portraits afterward, ideally at one or two nearby spots. This is where most of the gallery comes from.
- A set number of edited photos, delivered in an online gallery. Ask how many, and whether you choose them or the photographer does.
- A delivery time. Flytographer and LocalLens promise five days (five business days at LocalLens); independent photographers range from a couple of days to a few weeks.
- Usage rights. Most sessions are for personal use (sharing, printing, announcements). If you want anything else, ask.
How the photographer handles the surprise matters as much as the price. Some hide at a distance; others use a “photoshoot cover” or play a passer-by. We explain both approaches in how a secret proposal photoshoot works in Paris.
What changes the price
Length and number of photos
Length is the biggest driver. Thirty minutes is enough for the proposal and a few portraits; one hour is more comfortable; two hours lets you move to a second location, for example from a quiet garden to an Eiffel Tower view. Compare the price per edited photo, not just the headline price.
Time of day
Evening and night sessions often cost more. One Paris agency publishes €230 for one hour in the day and €350 in the evening; across its grid, evening prices are 40 to 56% higher depending on length. Sunrise is usually charged at the day rate (one studio says so explicitly), but ask.
Video
A videographer, or a photographer who also films, is quoted separately. Ask for a combined price if you want both, and check how the two will stay out of each other’s frame.
Decor and setup
Letters, flowers, candles, a picnic or a musician turn a photo session into a planner job. That is where budgets jump from a few hundred euros to €1,500 and more. Our comparison of a proposal planner versus a photographer alone helps you decide whether you need it.
Location fees and transport
Most street and bridge sessions carry no location fee, but some sites have their own. The national monuments agency (CMN), which manages the Palais-Royal and the Arc de Triomphe among others, publishes a flat rate of €150 excluding VAT (€180 including VAT) for a two-hour non-commercial wedding or group photo session. Moving between spots by taxi adds roughly €10 to €20 per ride, according to one agency’s estimate.
Hair, makeup and outfits
Photoshoot hair and makeup costs around €150 in Paris (makeup alone about €70 to €150), and early starts add surcharges (one artist adds €40 before 8 am; another adds €100 before 8 am and €150 before 6 am). Renting a flowing gown adds about €100 to €150 (one Paris specialist charges €100 per flying dress on top of a photoshoot package).
Delivery speed and VAT
Express delivery is sometimes an option (one agency charges €50 or €90 extra). Also check whether prices include VAT: some photographers include 20% VAT, others are VAT-exempt small businesses, so two prices are not always comparable “tax included”.

Three sample budgets
These examples use the ranges above. Your own total depends on the photographer you choose.
| Plan | What it includes | Approximate total |
|---|---|---|
| Simple sunrise proposal | One-hour session, one location, a taxi | About €230 to €400 |
| Proposal and engagement portraits | Two-hour session, two locations, a taxi, hair and makeup with an early start | About €540 to €920 |
| Planner setup | Decorated scene and planner coordination (check whether the photographer is included) | From about €590, often €1,500 to €2,000 |

Deposits, cancellations and tipping
There is no standard way to pay a Paris photographer. Some ask for no deposit and take payment on or near the day; others ask for 30 to 50% at booking; booking platforms take payment before the shoot (LocalLens holds it until afterward). Cancellation terms vary just as much, so read the contract, especially the rain policy: who decides, and what happens if you reschedule.
Tipping is not expected in France. If your photographer went above and beyond, a tip or (even better) a review is appreciated, but never required. Our article on tipping a photographer in Paris covers the etiquette.
How to compare quotes
When you have two or three offers, line them up with these questions:
- How long is the session, and does it include portraits after the proposal?
- How many edited photos, and who selects them?
- Is there a surcharge for sunrise, evening, weekends or the proposal itself?
- When will the gallery arrive?
- What are the deposit, cancellation and rain terms?
- Are prices quoted with or without VAT?
- Does the photographer know the rules of the spot you chose?
On our free directory you can compare packages (length, minimum number of photos, price or “on quote”) and contact couple photographers directly. There is no commission and no booking fee: you agree on the price with the photographer and pay them directly.
FAQ
How much does a proposal photographer cost in Paris?
At the time of writing (October 2026), most independent and agency photographers charge roughly €220 to €380 for a one-hour session, which is the usual length for a proposal with portraits. Some add a small proposal surcharge; dollar-priced marketplaces charge about $295 to $525 for an hour.
Is a proposal shoot more expensive than a couple shoot?
Usually only slightly. Published prices suggest it is generally priced as a regular session, sometimes with an add-on for the extra planning (one Paris agency adds €30, Flytographer $100). The price rises mainly with length, evening timing, video or decoration.
How long should a proposal photo session be?
One hour is a comfortable minimum: the proposal takes seconds, and the portraits afterward fill the gallery. Choose two hours if you want a second location, such as a garden for the proposal and an Eiffel Tower view for portraits.
How much does it cost to propose in Paris overall?
A photo-only proposal can cost a few hundred euros on top of your trip. With a planner, budgets start around €590 at one Paris agency and average €1,500 to €2,000, before the ring, dinner and travel.
Do I need to tip my proposal photographer?
No. Tipping is not expected in France. A tip is appreciated if the photographer went above and beyond, but a review is often the more useful thank-you.
